Biography

Kim Hedås was born in 1965 in Hedemora, Dalarna, Sweden. She studied composition and electro acoustic music with Pär Lindgren, Bill Brunson, Sven-David Sandström and Magnus Lindberg at the Royal University College of Music, Stockholm. Her studies started in 1991 and were completed with a diploma in 1997.

Kim Hedås has received commissions from the Swedish Concert Institute, the Swedish Radio, the Opera House in Gothenburg, from several theatres and from musicians, ensembles and choirs. Her production contains chamber music, orchestral music, choral music, dance and theatre music as well as electro acoustic music. Her music has been performed by ensembles such as the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, Kroumata Percussion Ensemble, KammarensembleN, The Pearls before Swine Experiment and VOX. Her music has been frequently performed at concerts, on the radio and TV, in Sweden as well as abroad.

Kim Hedås was engaged with the Swedish Radio P2 as a composer in residence 1998 – 2000. During these years she composed three pieces, Magnetit for KammarensembleN, Diorama for the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra and Under luften for a quartet. In 2001, Kim Hedås composed an opera for children, Junker Nils av Eka, based on a story by Astrid Lindgren, commissioned by and performed at the Opera House in Gothenburg and later on tour in Sweden. Her piece Vindla, commissioned and performed by the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, was the opening piece for the new Concert House in Vara in 2003.

Her piece Good Morning, Love – It’s Springtime In My Heart! gained a mention at the Stockholm Electronic Music Festival and a residence prize at Les Grand Prix Internationeaux de Musique Electroacoustic, Bourges. Her piece Princess Bat with the Underground Stars was commissioned by Diffussion i MèDIA, and have been released in two CDs from the Canadian record company.

Kim Hedås has received grants and fellowships. She was awarded 1995 City of Stockholm Artist’s Fellowship and the 1997 Major Fellowship of the Royal University College of Music, Stockholm.
